About This Concert

The Hanover Band returns to St Nicholas’ Church in Arundel for our annual Festival concert, a large-scale programme featuring Schubert’s quintessentially Romantic “Great C Major” symphony.

Titan of the historical trumpet David Blackadder joins us for Haydn’s much-loved Trumpet Concerto–the first concerto composed for the newly-invented keyed trumpet, which enabled players to access notes and tonalities that weren’t available on the earlier natural trumpet.

David will be playing a replica of the keyed trumpets which were developed at the end of the 18th century and made Haydn’s virtuosic writing possible, giving us a rare chance to hear what the concerto might have sounded like to its first audiences.

Alongside the Haydn we will be performing Schubert’s mighty Ninth Symphony, “The Great C Major” and Beethoven’s overture to Coriolanus, in a programme that explores both the ebullience and the emotional depths of the high-classical repertoire.

We are delighted to welcome back Leon Bosch as conductor. Leon has become a familiar face with The Hanover Band’s audiences in recent years and this January we embarked together on an ambitious project to record Johannes Sperger’s orchestral works for Chandos.
