ABOUT THE ‘DISCOVERY’ SESSIONS

Introducing Schubert to school age children

Before each concert there will be an interactive schools workshop held in the afternoon at each Livery Hall venue.  Led by dynamic young Animateur Tom Daggett, who for several years has run music outreach at St Paul’s Cathedral, Tom will lead a ‘discovery session’ for young people.

These sessions will be a rare opportunity to visit the Livery Halls, introducing Schubert’s lesser known music in a fun, engaging way.

Tom Daggett – Animateur

Tom has launched a range of children’s choirs in East London including the Hackney Children’s Choir.  His infectious enthusiasm and energy mean these sessions will be enjoyable as well as informative.

SCHOOL VISITS

There are opportunities for School Visits to the Livery Halls, culminating in an ‘Interactive Open Rehearsal’.

The Hanover Band

HANOVER (Not Hannover; Germany) In terms of British history the majority of the music we play is from the Hanoverian period. Hanover also refers to Hanover Square in London, where Haydn performed his symphonies and arias in the Salomon Concerts in the 1790’s.

BAND (ref: The New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians)
‘An instrumental ensemble, larger than a chamber ensemble. Thus the ’24 violins’ of Louis XIV were called ‘la grande bande’ to distinguish them from Lully’s ‘petits violons’, and Charles II’s similar ensemble was known as ‘the King’s Band’. By extension, ‘band’ came to mean an orchestra in colloquial British usage’.

THE HANOVER BAND a period name for a period orchestra.
